Sophisticated, complex, and very proud of what it has to offer, France has a cornucopia of pleasures to entice any interest. Few cities are as romantic, and packed with artistic, architectural, fashion and culinary treasures as Paris. For oenophiles, nirvana is Burgundy, Bordeaux or Champagne, all of which feature charming towns to match their rare vintages. In the Dordogne region of the Southwest, the countryside is dotted with medieval castles and the town squares with markets selling truffles and foie gras. It’s more relaxed in Provence, with the stone farmhouses, olive groves and fields of flowers and lavender that inspired Van Gogh. But further west, on the Cote d’Azur, the former fishing villages from St. Tropez to Antibes are now bastions of glamour.
