It’s not easy to get to the lodges in Botswana; you have to go through a series of light plane flights. You won’t have cell service or internet either but what you will have is hundreds or thousands of acres of safari land to yourself. The lodges, technically tents but as spacious and highly designed as hotel suites; fit into the environment so naturally that it’s not uncommon to find an elephant sleeping next to your tent or walking just past the open lobby. If you stay in the Okavango Delta, it’s like the wildlife Garden of Eden: you wake to the sound of roaring lions and can wave good morning to hippos wading in the river in front.
